Hi,

The name "mc" is used for years by midnight commander

minio-mc clashes with that name, shouldn't an other name be used instead?

There is an explanation on why it is done this way https://github.com/minio/mc/blob/master/CONFLICT.md - we won't changing the project name at this point in time.

I understand your stance and also understand this is probably not the best place to discuss this (please link a better discussion post), but I think the idea of "distros can change the name if they want" is a terrible practice.

This will cause more trouble down the the road with fragmentation and user confusion, eg "guides keep saying mc but I don't have that command? what did my distro name it?"

PLEASE reconsider your stance with this in mind, as it is not a huge issue yet, but will be once you are more widely adopted.

The command being "short and sweet" is nice, but should not be prioritized over consistency.

@zefie we do not agree, we do not actually expect distros to bundle mc - if they do they have the choice to rename it.

The ship has sailed on this issue, so it won't change anytime in future. Our stance is also documented here https://github.com/minio/mc/blob/master/CONFLICT.md
