Background

The concepts implemented in our data quality assessment (DQA) tool are oriented on the concepts proposed in Kahn et al. in their paper from 2016 "A Harmonized Data Quality Assessment Terminology and Framework for the Secondary Use of Electronic Health Record Data".

Basically, the harmonized DQA terminology consists of a three-category framework with several sub-categories, namely

  • Conformance
  • Completeness
  • Plausibility

which can be assessed in two interpretation contexts: verification and validation.

For more detail, we encourage the interested user to read Kahn et al.'s paper for a deeper understanding.

How these concepts were implemented in our DQA tool are described in more detail in our publication "Linking a Consortium-Wide Data Quality Assessment Tool with the MIRACUM Metadata Repository".
