There was a lot of changes made to some core MESS drivers during the 0.148 development cycle, which introduced a significant amount of issues with game systems, updating to 0.149 would include the fixes made during the later 'U' updates and thus is a better stable release.

I just found out many systems (like snes) require software lists to function in 0.149, so there needs to be some GUI work because we can update.

Interesting, so rather than fighting against official software lists, maybe we should just use them as standard (like QMC2 does). They have been updated a lot recently for the common systems, so unlike a year ago, the softlists should be a lot more complete now.

Be an idea then to bring back the directory / driver tree for the HOST game screen (i.e SNES, SNES DSP, etc)..

Also, I'd like to see a top menu screen option, "HOST custom PSX game", so you can host a game from Blitz custom PSX HSI file.

I just wanted to add that the controls for the PSX are working again in MESS 0.149

I'd like to see a top menu screen option, "HOST custom PSX game"

Letting people run custom games, perhaps depicted by an icon or color in the Hosted Games list, seems like a nice idea. Example uses: Translation hacks, 4 player hack for Marvel vs Capcom (had somebody ask about this).

The software lists do have the advantage of making sure players are using the same updated versions of a game. It keeps the hosted games list tidier/clearer, it's easier for new players and saves space/downloading.
