Version of Mixxx (1.5? 1.6beta?)?

What hardware? (laptop, desktop, soundcard, video card)

Is there any pattern of actions that you noticed you do when it crashes? (i.e. one track playing, loaded a second track, but didn't play it yet and mixxx crashed)?

Can you copy the short error message in the Applications Event log and paste it in here?

Latest version of Mixxx, laptop.

It happened when particular tracks were being loaded. We think there may be
a problem with more than one file, so we will stop using those files.

Thanks for such a quick response - can you help with another problem I have
just put on the Mixxx troubleshooting forum?

My own laptop runs Vista, and I can't use Mixxx on it at all as there is no
option to import mp3 files and all my files are mp3. I know there is already a
thread about this on the forum but any answers given haven't helped .......

Thanks, Sue

Hi Sue,

If you're using the latest beta, try using Mixxx 1.5.0. It's more stable than our latest beta release (1.6.0 beta2). Unfortunately, don't get your hopes up for this being fixed by Wednesday. Mixxx isn't anyone's full-time job, so we don't have the money/time/resources to fix things on such short notice.

To other developers: I think this is probably memory corruption causing some assert somewhere. It's the bug we're trying to track down at the moment...

Thanks, it seems to be just one or two tracks doing this so we've removed
them!!

But can you help re my prob with Vista and not being able to use mp3 files
with Mixxx?

Sue

Sue,

I had this problem with version 1.5
I noticed this would happen only on mp3 files which could not be analyzed for BPM.
I think something to do with not being able to read meta information or analyze some mp3s.

Am not sure if am entirely correct or just contradicting Albert, but I haven't had this problem on the latest beta (1.6.02) ever.
I run Mixxx on Windows XP. Infact I think the version of 1.5 i used earlier was much less stable than current beta.
There might be files that cannot be analyzed for BPM but Mixxx still plays them.

good luck

Sue, can you clarify if your problem regarding playing MP3's on Vista has been solved or not? (Please test with 1.6.0 beta2)

Is it only certain files?

An option to import MP3 files does not come up at all, so I can't play any
MP3s - no, hasn't been solved

Sorry to be dim but what is 1.6.0 beta2? I downloaded the latest version of
Mixxx very recently

Thanks

Hi Sue,

No problem - The 1.6.0 Beta 2 download can be found on our downloads page:
http://mixxx.org/download.php
(scroll down on that page)

A more direct link to the download for 1.6.0 beta2 for Windows is here:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mixxx/mixxx-1.6.0-beta2-win.exe?download
(Be forewarned that this beta is less stable in some ways, but shouldn't have any problems with MP3s crashing. There are some other known issues we're working actively on.)

When Mixxx starts, it should prompt you with a dialog to pick your library directory. If not, it will start scanning your library and importing your songs automatically. (This is with 1.6.0 beta2.)

Thanks,
Albert

Closing this because we've made tons of fixes and the bug report has expired otherwise.
