Hickups and skips in live stream when streaming OGG #5765
Comments
Commented by: dj-dj-ed Bug is also present in Mixxx release version 1.9.0 |
Commented by: Pegasus-RPG Just to check, is it any better if you increase the latency value in Sound Hardware? (My reasoning is that streaming is a side-chain process that might be getting starved if there's not enough time left to handle it.) |
Commented by: raffitea hmm, thought that I fixed that previously. I'll try to commit a fix for 1.9.1. |
Commented by: raffitea Do the skips only occur on while crossfading between two tracks? |
Commented by: raffitea Just tested within my LAN: Can't confirm. I used VLC player to listen the OGG stream. |
Commented by: rryan I can't reproduce either and since Tobias couldn't reproduce in 2011, I'm going to mark incomplete. |

Mixxx version 1.90.beta1
When streaming live to an Icecast server in Ogg format, when listened to the stream, it has lots of skips and short repeats (just like a defective CD).
It does not matter how low or high the bitrate of the stream is configured. Also tried several different Icecast serverhosts, all made no difference.
Problem is gone as soon as you switch to use MP3 codec for streaming (with lame_enc.dll).
The hickups or skips cannot heard on the local main playback output, they are just on the livestream, so it seems not a playback issue, more an encoding issue.
Problem shows on 2 completely different systems:
Dell Notebook
OS: Windows XP, SP3
CPU: Intel Pentium M 760
RAM: 2GB DDR2 266MHz
Video: Mobile Intel(R) 915GM @ 1024*768
Sound: SigmaTel C-Major Audio, built-in (with ASIO4ALL driver loaded)
and 2nd system:
ASUS Notebook K52JC-EX118V
OS: Windows 7 64bit.
CPU: Intel Core i3 370M / 2.4 GHz
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1066MHz
Intel HD Graphics @ 1368*768. (Mixxx will not run properly on the graphics accellerator card: NVIDIA GeForce G310M)
Sound: built-in (with ASIO4ALL driver loaded)
samplerate configured at 44.100, using ASIO driver.
