1. Map a fader so it controls volume by default and rate with shift (for example; any two ControlPotmeters could be mapped)
2. Move volume to bottom
3. Hold shift and move rate to bottom
4. Release shift
5. Move fader up quickly. Soft takeover will mistakenly engage and the software volume fader will not move until the hardware fader is moved up, down, and back up.

Are these mapped in script or straight XML? If script, is ignoreNextValue() called right before switching what the fader controls?

With script, and yes, engine.ignoreNextValue gets called when switching layers.
