About Landmarks

Michael Starrett edited this page Aug 6, 2020 · 9 revisions

Landmarks is an open source package for Unity3d. This repository can be cloned or downloaded and opened as a Unity project folder. See the "Getting Started" section for more information on how to use this repository.

Landmarks was created and coded by Jason Laczko, for the Human Spatial Cognition Laboratory (PI: Arne D, Ekstrom, PhD) to facilitate desktop-based spatial navigation experiment building. It has been overhauled to support immersive VR and has undergone significant changes to improve end-user functionality.

DISCLAIMER: I (Mike Starrett) am not a game designer or software engineer by training. I am a psychology PhD student with a functional understanding of Unity, programming, and git.

Over the course of my PhD, I have had to devote a substantial amount of time to learning Unity, programming my tasks, and integrating (constantly changing) emergent VR technologies into these programs (instead of reading papers, collecting data, and writing/publishing manuscripts). At the very least, my hope is that Landmarks can save other students/researches some of this time by providing a functioning scaffold upon which they can build their experiments.
