On page 51 of the 3.3Rev1 specification, I believe that everything in 4.8.5 beginning with "Accessing attribute values in expressions:" onward to just before 4.8.5.1 was meant to be part of the preceding non-normative example. This is corroborated by the fact that there's an extra closing "]" just before 4.8.5.1.
