Looks to me like https://github.com/gitlabhq/grit is actively maintained and eg. still in use for gollum/gollum.
Just thought it would be helpful for users researching issues with grit - like me.

Gitlab has since also moved on to use rugged, the last commit to their fork has been six months ago. Still, their fork is ahead, and may be of value to someone.
