with example ID MGI:1342287. There is also some leakage of params specific to the homology call. I am using api.parser.copy() so I suspect there might be a weird gotcha in python inheritance? cc @mbrush

The call is correct, the data in GO Golr is unfortunately wrong: geneontology/go-annotation#1554

OK, the hacky fix is to remove the constraint that the subject_category is gene. This is fine as the only things annotated with function (aka GO) are genes and gene products.

And the gene/gene product conflation thing is a separate issue...
