In Reports / Categories / Summary or Monthly i still get a List of all subcategories.
Provide ability to create a Report with only main categories (summary of subcategories) to be displayed in one row per main category ?

Nice. It works. I suggest the default be collapse all, not expand all. This way I can click on a category I'm interested in instead of having every category expanded which includes expanding categories that don't have any subcategories. Or save the last used setting -collapse all or expand all.

Personally I like the existing way, so when I open it I can see everything and then decide if I want to collapse or focus on a particular category. Perhaps we should have an option :-)

Another thought, now that we have the main category as the headline in the report perhaps we don't need the full category:subcategory naming for subcategory anymore?
E.g. instead of

+ Bills
     Bills:Electricity
     Bills:Gas
     Bills:Water

we could report:

+ Bills
     Electricity
     Gas
     Water

"Perhaps we should have an option :-)" Yes!

"...perhaps we don't need the full category:subcategory naming for subcategory anymore?" Yes, less clutter. Good idea.

I don't like options. We can overload the interface for the sake of such insignificant parameters.

I guess it may be insignificant but it appears that at least two users (me and @2BeeOrNot) have differing needs from this. To be honest I can live with it opening in a collapsed state so happy to code that if nobody else shouts :-)

Instead of an option couldn't you save the last state, collapse all or expand all, like you do for home page widgets?

I did think about that for a moment but you can bet that somebody will ask why it did not save the state when I had everything collapsed except category X. Or I expanded the report to look at some detail then went back and it was wasn't collapsed. 😀
