One of my favorite things about using Leaflet over Esri's Arcgis Javascript API is the simplicity of the code/not forcing me to use Dojo. This led me to wonder if your inspiration for a simple mapping api came from past experience using Esri's API/software (such as ArcMap)?

I never used any Esri software. Initially Leaflet was created as a simple OpenLayers alternative. I talk more about this in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLbyHffKQuU
