On the right side of this pdf (http://www.fitness-muenchen.com/kursplan/SSCKursplanaktuell.pdf) there is some vertical text which is not rendered correctly.

Hm, I see that. And text selection is completely broken for the vertical text.

Something changed (maybe the document was updated) but the vertical text ist now displayed correctly. Text selection still broken.

Maybe related to #2686.

I think that fixed the drawing of vertical text, but not the displaying. Here's another PDF with vertical (English) text: CRUTEM4.pdf. This renders properly but does not have proper text selection. Try adding #textLayer=visible and you'll see how weird it is.

In version currently shipped with Firefox (19.0.2), 4e90760, fix from #2686 is not yet in.

But even if you open in this viewer, vertical text (the hidden text for selection) is not yet displayed correctly. The issue is that BidiResult does not get "vertical" flag set. Probably the reason is because it is not a vertical font (like in Japanese) but it is latin font, rotated. All PDFs from arXiv have the same issue, for example: http://arxiv.org/pdf/0707.3023.pdf

Uh, even the PDF which was used for testing in #2686 does have a bug and does not display text layer correctly.

@waddlesplash

That is a known issue.

Where it is tracked?

Right here - see above!

And text selection is completely broken for the vertical text.

Yes, I am just confirming the bug, explaining that it is still there in master (and was not resolved by #2686) and that it even fails on the test PDF they were using for #2686.

Looks like other comments are off-topic. (vertical text layer was fixed by #3494 and #3373). Closing as resolved
