M+

M+ is building a collection of twentieth and twenty-first century visual culture, encompassing the disciplines of design and architecture, moving image, and visual art, grounded in Hong Kong with a global perspective. Geographically, the collections cover Hong Kong, mainland China, and regions across Asia and beyond. The M+ Collections are composed of the M+ Collection, the M+ Sigg Collection, and the M+ Collection Archives.

M+ is embracing the practice of open access and working towards releasing as much of our collections metadata as possible. Our goal is to unlock the museum’s institutional knowledge and release it into the public domain, driven by M+’s mission as a public institution. Read more about our open access journey here.

This dataset contains textual information for about 9,300 records from the M+ Collections and will be updated periodically as the museum conducts further research and accessions works. It includes basic metadata for each artwork, including accession number, title, date, classification, medium, and dimensions.

At this time, the dataset is available in CSV format, encoded in UTF-8. While UTF-8 is the standard for multilingual character encodings, it is not correctly interpreted by Excel on a Mac. Users of Excel on a Mac can convert the UTF-8 to UTF-16 so the file can be imported correctly. The dataset is also available in JSON.

This dataset is placed in the public domain using a CC0 1.0 Universal License.

Images are not included

Creators and artists have legal rights over images in M+’s collections. It is illegal to use images without their permission. Images are therefore not included in this dataset.

Research in progress

This data is provided ‘as is’ for the purposes of research, learning, and exploration, and you may use this data at your own risk. Documentation of the museum’s collection is an ongoing process, and we are continuing to research and enrich our collections data. M+ makes no representations or warranties of any kind on this data. We plan to update the dataset with new and revised information on a regular basis. You are advised to regularly update your copy of the datasets to ensure you are using the best available information.

Pull requests

Because the dataset is generated from our internal database, we do not accept pull requests. If you have identified errors or have extra information to share, please email us, and we will forward to the appropriate department for review.

Give attribution to M+ Museum

Our dataset is being offered under the CC0 1.0 Universal license.

If you use this dataset, please cite M+ as the source, using

1. the digital object identifier [####], and the formal acknowledgement/attribution ‘source: M+ Museum, Hong Kong’, and
2. a link to our website: mplus.org.hk.
3. Attribution supports efforts to release other data. It also reduces the amount of ‘orphaned data’, helping retain links to authoritative sources.

Do not misrepresent the dataset

Do not mislead others or misrepresent the dataset or its source. You must not use M+’s trademarks or otherwise claim or imply that M+ endorses you or your use of the dataset.

Whenever you transform, translate, or otherwise modify the dataset, you must make it clear that the resulting information has been modified. If you enrich or otherwise modify the dataset, consider publishing the derived dataset without reuse restrictions.

M+正以立足香港、放眼全球的視野，致力建立二十及二十一世紀國際級視覺文化藏品。M+藏品系列由M+藏品、M+希克藏品及M+檔案藏品組成，涵蓋設計及建築、視覺藝術、流動影像等範疇，從香港出發，擴及至中國、亞洲不同地區及世界各地。

本數據集包含約9,300項M+藏品的文字紀錄。隨着博物館繼續進行研究工作和新藏品登記入冊，數據集亦將定期更新。數據集內存每件作品的基本元數據，包括登記號碼、標題、日期、類別、媒介及尺寸。 數據集以UTF-8編碼，現時可以CSV格式下載。UTF-8是標準的編碼格式，通用於多種語言字元，惟Mac系統的Excel檔案不能正確顯示此編碼。Mac系統的用戶可將UTF-8編碼轉換為UTF-16編碼，以順利讀取Excel檔案。數據集亦可以JSON格式下載。

本數據集按CC0 1.0通用授權條款存放到公共領域。

數據集不包含圖像

M+藏品的創作者或藝術家擁有圖像的法定權利。在得到藝術家的允許前使用圖像，屬違法行為。因此圖像不包含在數據集之內。

研究進行中

這些數據「按其現況」發放予研究、學習及探究之用，在使用時應自行考量並自負風險。我們持續記錄博物館藏品的情況和最新資料，並不斷研究及擴充館藏數據。M+將不會就這些數據作出任何陳述或保證。 我們將定期更新和修訂更新數據集。建議閣下不時下載更新版本，以索取最新資訊。
