Video Aligner v1.0

Features:

  • Align video and audio using one track as a reference (not perfect, but works most of the time)
  • Batch normalize audio
  • Preview the mix as audio or video
  • Export an .mlt file for editing with Shotcut

Installation:

Download, unzip, and run. You will almost certainly see an angry-looking message that this is an unrecognized or unsigned app app from an unverified developer, and warning you that running this program is a bad idea. Unfortunately both Mac and Windows use heuristics like "how many other people have downloaded this app" to flag suspicious programs, so niche software like this will always trigger that warning. Fortunately, you can silence it and run the program anyway:

Mac: The simplest way around this is to control+click (or right click if you have a two-buton mouse) on the app and select Open, which should open a window with a message asking if you really want to open this. Click the Open button. For more information, see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491 (specifically "How to open an app that hasn’t been notarized or is from an unidentified developer").

Windows: You should see a "SmartScreen" alert, with only one button: either Ok or Don't Run (which will do the same thing). There's also a More information link in the text of the alert, which will allow you to select Run anyway. For more information, see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/microsoft-defender-smartscreen/microsoft-defender-smartscreen-overview and https://www.howtogeek.com/123938/htg-explains-how-the-smartscreen-filter-works-in-Windows-8/

Requirements:

Video Aligner is designed to be used alongside Shotcut, and uses several tools that are bundled with Shotcut (ffmpeg/ffprobe/ffplay and melt). Before starting it searches for Shotcut on your computer, and complains if it is unable to find it, since it won't work at all without these tools.
