prep walls

• strip walls to plywood
  • remove existing siding
  • remove / disconnect anything else attached to walls
• strip siding from wall
• remove windows
• reframe window openings
  • oversize the rough opening:
    • +1/2" vertical for sloped sill (use siding material) to push water out
    • +1.5" for width of plywood extensions (3/4" all around)
• spray foam fill all cracks and holes
• tape plywood seams

install insulation

• install z-channel flashing
• install foam board, caulk all outer edges, tape all seams
• install 2nd layer, joints offset, caulk all outer edges, tape all seams
• cut out window holes
• install bucks / plywood extensions to outside edge of insulation board
• install furring strips (screw 24" o.c. to 1.5" stud penetration)
• install insect screening / perfed J-channel / etc. to keep 'em out of rain screen
