prep wall

• strip wall to plywood
  • remove existing siding (Aug 9)
  • remove tar paper (Aug 10, 11:04)
  • remove / pound flat remaining nails (
  • remove / disconnect anything else attached to walls
• remove windows (11:34)
• brush walls to remove dust, debris, and wood particles (11:45)
• reframe window openings
  • oversize the rough opening:
    • +1/2" vertical for sloped sill (use siding material) to push water out
    • +1.5" for width of plywood extensions (3/4" all around)
• retrofit nail schedule to seismic nailing pattern (crawl space #2 seismic upgrades #24)
• spray foam fill all cracks and holes
• tape plywood seams

install foam insulation

• install z-channel flashing
• install insect screening / perfed J-channel / etc. to keep critters out of rain screen
• install foam board, caulk all outer edges, tape all seams
• install 2nd layer, joints offset, caulk all outer edges, tape all seams
• cut out window holes
• install bucks / plywood extensions to outside edge of insulation board
• install furring strips (screw 24" o.c. to 1.5" stud penetration)
