Maybe rather a question - how would I set up an account that has a variable value (without transfers to other accounts). One example would we a custody account with shares that changes value constantly; other examples could be collections of valuable items, precious metals, etc.

Sorry, if this is a dumb question or if I missed it somewhere but I was searching around and could not find a good solution.

This is an excellent question, and I am sorry to admit that MyExpenses does not support that use case yet. It has come up in discussion with users, but I am unsure about the exact requirements. Could you describe what features you would expect for management of these assets?

I think it would be in the end more or less a 'normal' account, i.e. with the possibilities to transfer values to other accounts but with the additional option to change the overall account value without any kind of transfers.

Simple example...

  • Assume I have some company shares with a value of 10.000 €
  • If I sell some shares for 1000 € then I just transfer that value to another account (so standard for MyExpenses) and the new overall value of the custody account will be 9000 €.
  • A few months later the value of the shares increased and the account now has a value of 9400 €. So this is something that can't (easily) be reflected I think. It would require something like a 'value correction' without any transactions.

Note for patrimonio feature (by @lori59)
You have at least two different kind of patrimonio you can track in different ways.

  1. Patrimonio managed as a whole by your bank.
In this case you give the bank an amount of money, the bank divides it in different bonds, and you can see its trend on the site of the bank as a whole. My bank gives you the initial value, the present one and the gain/loss (both the total and the percentage, and also a graph). This kind of check should be the same.

  2. Patrimonio composed by single funds, or certificates or shares you choose.
In this case you give the bank an amount of money to buy a certain quantity of each at a certain price (each bond is identified by an international code, called isin). If you multiply the two, you have the initial amount of each. After a certain period, if you want to see your gain/loss, you have to update the price looking for the present value of your title in the stock market (the quantity is always the same) and compare it with the initial amount (both total and percentage). I should say that this feature is available in the site of my bank. But it does not allow you to know the trend. If you want to know it, you have to use another site (like morningstar.com). It could be useful to have a link between the isin of the bond and the relevant page of the graph. If not possible you should have three or four previous updates
