(My log is gone now, so not attaching for now)

On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and current MXE HEAD ( a37bce6 ), make fontconfig fails (at fontconfig itself), and the build log suggests that it needs a newer gettext version.

I ran make gettext, and then make fontconfig again - which now succeeded.

So I think it needs it as a dependency.
