When I login to the portal and try to connect, I get the following error code:

Connection failed: Unknown error

I am assuming you mean the portal at https://remote.nabucasa.com ?

What browser do you use?

And when you go to Home Assistant -> Configuration -> Cloud, is the remote connection enabled?

I was doing this on my mobile browser (Chrome, OnePlus 3T, android 8.0). However, after a retry later it suddenly worked. Therefore it might have been a glitch on the first connection.

It was indeed on the site you've mentioned and I had the remote connection enabled since I never changed anything between this episode and the successful retry.

It works now so I guess this can be closed.
