Didn’t notice this until after I also proposed a change, but pointing to github. At the moment the readthedocs pages are not maintained, and the documentation is out of date. Given that, would it be better, for now, to just point to github? Or...?

Sure, I didn't realize readthedocs wasn't being automatically updated.

This is something we should put on the list to get done, as well as updating the docs first. But will take time.
