It made me a little sad that they dropped this from the Spec. I’ve used it a few times on projects and found it useful. C’est la vie.

As far as Normalize is concerned, perhaps a happy medium could be to add a numbered point in the comments…

/**

    1. The hgroup element is no longer valid markup and may lose browser support.
    1. Correct block display not defined in IE 8/9.
      */

article,
aside,
details,
figcaption,
figure,
footer,
header,
hgroup, /* 1 /
main,
nav,
section,
summary {
display: block; /
2 */
}

…or something to that effect. Just a thought ;-)

That will work too.

Two points:

  1. hgroup is still in the WHATWG HTML spec: http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/sections.html#the-hgroup-element
  2. <hgroup> is already in use on a lot of website. Dropping it simply because the W3C HTML spec drops it doesn’t help anyone.

@mathiasbynens ohh then we can use every Markup every time, how we want, you say? W3C is useless, you say?

Yep. Still in WHATWG HTML spec. Might remove it at some point, but this PR doesn't meet the contribution guidelines anyway.
