Maxfilter is a licenced software from Elekta (Finland), primarily used to clean MEG data using spatio-temporal signal separation methods. It can also apply motion correction, transform to a default headspace & much more.
I generally run Maxfilter through the Matlab command line using the function maxfilter_all.m . Currently this is set up to Maxfilter your data tSSS with a .9 correlation (but could be easily changed). For head movement visualisation the above function requires check check_movecomp.m to be in your Matlab path.
This is run using the script preprocessing_elektra_FT_MASTER.m . This IS NOT a function. I find it better to run preprocessing as script (section by section) for more control. How to use the script is expained in the document Preprocessing rs_script_runthrough.docx.
- Maxfilter (tSSS with .9 correlation) + movement visualisation (see above)
- Load data into Fieldtrip & apply filters
- Epoch the data
- Visually inspect the data + reject artefactual trials
- FASTICA to identify & remove eye and heart artefacts
- Save to disk
- Have tea
