With Talk7 we introduced a setting which allows to limit "Start calls" to "Moderators only". That currently breaks file calls, as there are no moderators.

From my expectation the file owner as well as all users that created a share for it should be able to start a call and therefor should be moderators (owner for the file owner). This way there is someone who can start the call.

In Nextcloud 25.0.6, Talk 15.0.6 this issue still exists, there is no moderator for file conversations, and there is no way for someone to become moderator.

So you cannot do any of the things a moderator can in a file conversation:

  • can't add/remove users from conversation
  • can't delete messages
  • can't access conversation settings such as automatically delete messages after some time
  • ...

I think this is quite a problem.

Proposal:

  1. For file conversations in public links, the person who created the link should automatically become moderator.
  2. For regular sidebar file conversations (only for logged-in users), it is not clear who should be moderator. IMO the cloud admins should automatically get moderator priviliges when they enter a file conversation.

IMO the cloud admins should automatically get moderator priviliges when they enter a file conversation.

Nextcloud administrators are not content moderators, so that's not an option.

But yeah for the rest I mostly agree and that is exactly why this issue is still open
