This vignette sets out options for creating SPC visualisations using various analysis and dashboarding ecosystems in common use in the NHS.
{NHSRplotthedots} is designed for R users, but we are the NHS-R community and recognise that the NHS uses a broad set of analysis and dashboarding tools. Analysts are usually not able to choose the tools or ecosystems they work with, which tend to be specified by the organisation the analyst works for. If you are reading this, it's likely that you are looking for a way to automate the production of SPC charts, but need to do it without the help of R.

The tools below are offered because sometimes work needs doing in the only available ecosystem.\

### Differing visual styles
The NHSE "Making Data Count"(MDC) training programme popularised the use of SPC in the NHS, and since 2019 has invested a large amount of time developing people at major NHS organisations across England. As a result there are a large number of people in the NHS who have a moderate familiarity with SPC through the blue, orange, and grey "plot the dots" visual style. This enables meeting time to be spent making data-driven decisions, not discussing the interpretation of the charts themselves.
The tables below make a distinction between tools that do and do not align to the MDC visual style. Tools that align closely can be used interchangably without the risk of introducing chart interpretation overheads to meetings and decision-making.
