This might require moving from longtable to tabus longtabu, which (apparently) requires a rewrite of some other parts. I'll investigate, but this seems a bit tricky.

Probably, it makes more sense to use tabularray, which is also implemented using LaTeX3. It is more flexible, providing long tables, X-columns, and multiline rows out of the box.
