Does anybody here knows if there is some legal issue in using the name NodeConfBR? Could @mikeal help us with this?

Na minha opinião vocês poderiam incluir o @mikeal aqui, e alterar o idioma desse issue para inglês.

This will probably be a longer answer than you expected :)

NodeConf is trademarked but it's a community conference and use of the trademark is granted liberally under a few rules:

  • You must have attended a NodeConf (US, EU, or India, as those are the only current 2-day NodeConfs)
  • The conference should be at least 2 days (of content) in length.
  • You should have a Code of Conduct for the event.
  • It should be community driven.

That's it, not sure if ya'll satisfy those or not. But, because it's kind of a pain to do all of this we started NodeConf ONE-SHOT, which is a single day conference that has much more of a support structure and far less rules (you don't have to have attended one prior, for instance). Here's the guide https://github.com/oneshot/organizers/wiki, and if you haven't run a conference before I highly suggest you go with ONE-SHOT (single day is so much easier than two day).

So, if you do any of that you can use the trademark and name and any of the creative assets and style. The problem you have right now is that your current logo is based on Joyent's node.js trademark and they are highly unlikely to grant you permission, so you'll need a new visual treatment :(

Only one of your organizers needs to have been at a prior NodeConf. Also, depending on your date, you might be able to attend NodeConf US prior to your event. NodeConf US is in June, I'm happy to gift one of you a ticket :)

Also, this only applies to "NodeConf," if you want to call it NodeCon, NodeCamp, NodeBrazil, etc there's no "rules" and I'm still more than happy to help you out however I can.

Thanks so much for your answer @mikeal, and btw you guys had done a great job with NodeCond ONE-SHOT allowing community driven events.

@mikeal are there any constraints in the conf format? I mean, should it be 100% tutorial/hands on or its entirely up the organizers to decide?

ONE-SHOT is a single day speaker series. There are no constraints on NodeConf other than being 2 days, NodeConf US has done two entirely hands-on events with no speakers, as well as some 2 day speaker series, and EU is 3 days with each day mixed talks and workshops. We encourage people to be as creative as possible with the content format, just keep in mind that the more "alternative' the format the more work it'll be on you organizers :)

Tks mikeal I share the same opinion,
KISS, for our first event.
Keep that in mind guys :"...more "alternative' the format the more work it'll be on you organizers :)"

@mikeal Tks for help us to understand better how we can proceed to make our NodeConf in Brazil! A few time we would do this here. And 2015 'promise'.

Just to followup, I love alternative formats, and encourage them whenever possible, just want to make sure everyone knows what they are getting in to :)
