Recurring NodeSchool @ Tumis (17th and Broadway) #2
Comments
Great space, can't wait :) Sundays/Thursdays are good. |
I would love to join, Thursdays would be great (except next week). I've got a commitment every other Sunday. |
@maxogden wednesday or sunday night works best for me. I have to stay at work late every thursday. |
@maxogden great space! i have oakland wiki meetups every other thursday night, but please don't let that affect when you choose to schedule this. |
@darrylwest I'm interested. thursdays are good for me. thanks... |
I'm interested! The only day I can't do is Tuesday. |
I'm really excited about this. The last few months of OaklandJS have shown me that doing something weekly, no matter what, actually becomes easier than doing something monthly :) |
Hi there! I don't think any of my keys work for the space at Tumis, but I believe @Jusdev89 has a key. Thursday to start would be good for me :) |
Weeknights after 6 are best for me. On Sun, Sep 7, 2014 at 7:17 PM, Lydia Katsamberis notifications@github.com

Hey there, you guys don't know me but I'm an Oakland resident getting into node. I'm actually typing this form the I <3 APIs conference in Fort Mason where we're doing a 2-day node workshop. Found this repo by googling "node school" (it had a certain ring to it) and checking out the Oakland chapter. Anyways, would love to join you guys if you're ok with it. |
@dunphyben @darrylwest heya, you guys should come by http://oaklandjs.com/ tomorrow, i'd be happy to tell you more about nodeschool etc and make sure you're at the right skill level etc. We're just starting out this nodeschool group and want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Thanks for your interest! |
thanks @maxogden! I'm actually busy all day tomorrow (day 2 of conference and then an evening meetup). so if another day would work for you... ;) |
@dunphyben the next one i'll be at is on the 23rd (im out of town next wednesday), but i'd definitely recommending going to an oakland.js first to get a feel for the community |
would love to join the 23rd one. I'll checkout oakland.js first on the 17th i guess, not gonna make it tonite. |
I'm interested in going. Thursdays are better for me in general. |
@maxogden Any night of the week is good for me (unless I'm out of town). Sunday nights sounds like it might be the best time slot for me though. |
@blithe ya! our rule for adding new people is: a) can an existing member personally vouch for them and b) do we have space available, both of which are a yes at the moment. I'll add him to the team |

@nodeschool/oakland Hey everyone! Let's do the first one of these next Sunday evening, the 21st (10 days from now), from 6pm - 9pm. I would say next Thursday but I'm out of town that day. After this first one we can do one on a Thursday (and pick future dates as a group). Bring your laptop! The event format is a study group to work on curriculum from http://nodeschool.io/ as well as other ad-hoc lessons as taught by myself and other mentors as they are needed. No need to RSVP for these once you're added to the team, just show up when you can! Max |
Hey @maxogden I was talking to my friend and co worker Andris @andris310 who also does node.js he wants to join. |
@maxogden Can you also add me for the nodeschool oakland? Thanks! |
@maxogden Could you add me please? Thanks! |

@maxogden Gotcha, just heard about OaklandJS, am planning on attending this Wednesday, thanks! |
@nodeschool/oakland Just a reminder we're gonna do the first hack night in 1.5 hours -- at 1633 Broadway from 6PM - 9PM |
I'd like to start doing a smaller recurring NodeSchool night at an office called Tumis that devlabs operates. It is located at 1633 Broadway (entrance is on Broadway but the office looks out over Telegraph).
Because of space constraints we won't be promoting the event publicly but will instead keep it word-of-mouth for now. We can fit 12-15 people in Tumis. I like the space because it's quiet, centrally located, has a great atmosphere (and wifi) and is easy to access (e.g. @Jusdev89 and @ffrancia have a key).
I'd like to do it weekly or maybe every other week depending on how it goes.
Here are some photos of the space (was being re-organized at the time) and the view from it's windows:
@cdaves, @ffrancia, @Jusdev89, @sherodtaylor, @jlord, @anniemal what days are the best/worst for you all during the week? For me the best nights would be Sunday nights or Thursday nights from 6p - 9p.
