#python-chess-annotator Takes a PGN file as an argument and annotates the first game in that file using an engine.

The result will be printed on standard output (the file on disk will be unchanged).

##Dependencies You will need a UCI[1] chess engine for analysis. stockfish[2] is the default.

Requires python-chess by Niklas Fiekas:[3]

pip install python-chess

##Usage

usage: annotator.py [-h] --file FILE [--engine ENGINE] [--depth DEPTH]
                    [--verbose]

optional arguments:
-h, --help show the help message and exit
--file FILE, -f FILE input PGN file
--engine ENGINE, -e ENGINE	analysis engine (default: stockfish)
--depth DEPTH, -d DEPTH search depth (default: 14)
--verbose, -v increase verbosity (print debugging info)

##To-do

  • Time-based analysis limits: instead of specifying a searchdepth, give a time limit on how long to spend analyzing the game
  • Reduce the frequency of annotations in positions where one side has an overwhelming advantage
  • Don't truncate a PV that ends in mate
