- Val: how to incentivize maintainers to stay?
- Ehsan: thinks incentives are there. Problem is to get started to be a maintainer.
- Val on how to get started:
- trying fixing issues, become a triager to help other to fix issue.
- training materials, courses?
- Ehsan on training:
- Good high-level arch doc; the flow
- expand the numba dev docs
- Good coding convention
- e.g. flake8, docstrings, ...
- congnitive complexity; smaller modules/functions
- less magic; more structures
- Good high-level arch doc; the flow
- Graham:
- not lost due to size of things but cross-modules; hard to follow
- because of the complexity; only high-stake contributors will stay around
- Siu: restructuring and more interfaces will be needed but the refactoring will take time
- Stuart: refactoring is hard.
- Graham: experience on being a Triager is a good way to see different places of numba
- Stuart: triage pairing/mentor
