Booting Fedora SoC from the bootable USB

This page will explain how you can boot Fedora-SoC from the bootable USB Stick you have created.

Refer to the following sections below based on your operating system.

PC

Refer to the following steps to boot Fedora SoC from the bootable USB stick on Windows 7 or later.

Booting from the bootable USB stick

Insert your bootable USB stick into your machine.

Go to the power menu. While holding down the "Shift" key, click "Restart".

Hold the "Shift" key until you see the UEFI boot menu then select Use a device

Choose the USB stick to load Fedora SoC.

Booting Fedora SoC

If you are booting into this ISO for the first time, use the arrow keys to select "Test this media & start Fedora Soc". If not select "Start Fedora Soc".

If you do not see "Test this media & start Fedora Soc", select "Troubleshooting" then select "Test this media & start Fedora Soc".

If you selected "Test this media & start Fedora Soc", your machine will run a test to ensure that the ISO is correct. Once it passes the test, your machine will start booting into Fedora SoC.

If you selected "Start Fedora Soc", your machine will start booting into Fedora SoC.

If you see a light grey screen after booting, simply press any alphabet key.

And you've successfully booted into Fedora SoC!

Now, follow this guide to start up Fedora SoC.

Mac

Refer to the following steps to boot Fedora SoC from the bootable USB stick on a Mac.

Configuring startup security settings

Power off your machine.

Turn on your Mac, then press and hold Command (⌘)-R immediately after you see the Apple logo. Hold Command (⌘)-R until a progress bar appears under the Apple logo.

This will cause your Mac to start up from macOS Recovery.

When the macOS Utilities window opens, choose Utilities > Startup Security Utility from the menu bar.

When you're asked to authenticate, click "Enter macOS Password", then choose an administrator account and enter its password.

Under the Secure Boot section, check the "No Security" option.

Under the External Boot section, check the "Allowing booting from external media" option.

Once done, close Startup Security Utility.

Booting from the bootable USB

Insert your bootable USB stick into your machine.

Restart your machine and immediately press and hold the Option key until the Startup Manager window appears. (Note: Startup Disk does not work.)

Select the right-most drive, not Fedora Media.

Booting Fedora SoC

If you are booting into this ISO for the first time, use the arrow keys to select "Test this media & start Fedora Soc". If not select "Start Fedora Soc".

If you do not see "Test this media & start Fedora Soc", select "Troubleshooting" then select "Test this media & start Fedora Soc".
