Same here - not able to install on Ubuntu 16.04:

E: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvbn-rm/ppa/ubuntu/dists/xenial/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found
E: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvbn-rm/ppa/ubuntu/dists/xenial/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Try specifying vivid rather than denial.

@johnfervin and how do we do that ?

I usually add the kia, manually change from xenial to vivid, do update and
try install. There may be other apps you need prior to install. As always,
Google is you friend.

@johnfervin:
I realise github is probably a bit above my level, as I only have been using Ubuntu for the last two months, but Google has proven itself, not being my friend. And there is no other place discussing my issues with Evernote and Everpad.
Can you, or someone with Johns level of knowledge explain these concepts for me?
What is kia (google wants me to buy a car, or refers to this page)?
I realise xenial and vivid are Ubuntu bulids, but I can't find any way to switch. Do you mean I should revert to vivid?

a) I have a Kia but not sure that I recommend them.

b) in general don't type in the quotes in the instructions below.

  • press the "window" button, (near the left of your space bar)
  • type in "software & updates" in the space provided of at the top of
    the window.,
  • click on "software & updates".
  • click on the "Other Software" Tab
  • click on "Add..." at the bottom of the Other Software screen.
  • enter "ppa:nvbn-rm/ppa" in the space provided and click on "+Add Source"
  • after you've entered the new repository, go find it in the list (It
    will say "http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvbn-rm/ppa/ubuntu") and then
click on it (there are actually two of them, binary and source. You
    should change them both.
  • and then click on "Edit" at the bottom of the screen (the other
    software screen still).
  • On the new screen, change from "xenial" to "vivid" in the
"Distribution" field. You can also type in Everpad-Binary and
Everpad-Source in the "Comment" lines for descriptive purposes.
  • click "OK" and close out of software & updates, giving it your
password, and OK'ing everything on the way out. It will want to
    reload your repository lists.
  • In a terminal, you should be able to do a "sudo apt install jitsi"
now (or use the "Ubuntu Software" app).

Let us know if that helps. This is on my Ubuntu 16.04 system.

Now I understood what you meant and managed to follow your instructions. However I get new errors and it gets complicated. Unfortunately my error messages are in Norwegian, and it'd be futile to translate them all. It's something about python parts needed, and not being possible to install them. I am going to have my friend have a go at it, if he can't fix it, I'll give up.

I am already looking into NixNote, and it is looking promising.

But thank you, John. You've given me good insight into the fact that I can use software for old distros, which can prove very useful in the future :)
Good luck with your Kia (I realise you intended to type ppa, now)!
