Can't see file icons

Hi I've just set up nvim-tree but all the icons seem to be question mark glyphs. Is this expected?
Is there additional config required to show proper icons?
I'm on Windows 10 & using nvim-qt (nvim is v0.7.0).

I'm using just the default configs for nvim-tree and installed via plug:

" in init.vim
Plug 'kyazdani42/nvim-web-devicons' " for file icons
Plug 'kyazdani42/nvim-tree.lua'

-- loaded in init.vim via require
require'nvim-tree'.setup {}

I also tried using different GUI via neovide (alternative to nvim-qt) and saw no difference.

Ok I found the problem: I needed to use a patched font that is compatible with ryanoasis/vim-devicons.

1. Install a Nerd Font compatible font or patch your own. Then set your terminal font (or guifont if you are using GUI version of Vim).

In my case things worked after I installed patched Fira Code and set guifont as follows:
