From forum topic Different exit code on client command failure:

currently the client returns 0 when a connection error occurs, which makes it hard to use it in scripts. The following command:
$ /usr/bin/nzbget --configfile /etc/nzbgetd.conf --quit
Unable to send request to nzbget-server at 127.0.0.1 (port 6789)
returns 0, it should not.
