It seems that maven-shade-plugin was in some way hiding the annotation @Provides of Wards processor.
Adding the ClassIndexTransformer to the shade seem to fix the problem.

This fix was in the docs of org.atteo.classindex.ClassIndex, used by clarity

I still don't know why sometimes it still worked, even without this fix.
