[Bug] New users not automatically subscribed to newsletter

Describe the problem

Pretty straight-forward problem. Not that newsletters go out often, but it's a bit of a hassle to have to create subscriptions for every signup that has happened since the last message.

Expected behavior

When a user signs up and verifies their email (hm, maybe that's part of the issue, is email verification even required right now?) then they should be automatically subscribed to the newsletter.
