Hi there! thanks for your great project, I'm using it with joy since a while now :^)

It may be of interest for you and other TMSU users to know about harvest existance: https://github.com/dyne/harvest

harvest is a zsh script that can "autotag" directories for TMSU based on their typology as categorized by file-extension-list https://github.com/dyne/file-extension-list

its rather fast and with a few dependencies, may be worth a mention in the readme, or let me know if you like to include it in misc then I'll package it and send a PR.
