Do not produce debugging information and disable debug statements (like asserts).

No real objections from my side, but I have to figure out how to overwrite that from the specfile. We (opensuse) need to build the binaries optimized but with the debug symbols, they later get split off into a separate "-debuginfo" package. |

Hmm, I guess I should use "RelWithDebInfo" in the spec instead. Thus merging... |
