Problem

  • Settings takes too much real estate in this app in proportion of the volume of people who tweak it, the frequency they use it.
  • Now that we replaced History by Lists, let's do something useful with the left part of the navbar
  • Let's turn the Settings Screen into an "For Me" screen. This will be a customizable screen where you can add and reorder tiles about various topics.
  • The top of the screen would have the username/avatar (we could auto generate some for anonymous users, like "Anonymous Apricot" or "Original Orange") to show it's really hand-crafted for you
  • Below that, a search settings field that would allow to find all the settings/options… or the avatar could be tapable and reveal shortcut to Food preferences/Settings… The grand idea being that we advertise settings in context throughout the app (eg Scan beep, haptic feedback, showing ingredients) instead of relying on people exploring settings

Ideas for tiles

  • Contribution counts (extracted from the sub-menu)
  • Latest Open Food Facts news as a sliding carousel
  • Environmental footprint, Health Footprint widgets (cf Track mode (Tracker issue) #523)
  • 3rd party extensions/plugins (as part of the open the app track)
  • On-boarding/Education tiles
  • Call to action tiles

Initial mockup

  • This mockup draws inspiration from the "For You" screen of the FitBit app
  • It doesn't have a very good solution yet to access the actual settings and food prefs

I would restyle the search bar, like this: Screenshot_20230919-092801.png

Additional thought: keep the latest 10 search strings.
