Source definition : AFTES.GT1R1A1.

Any interuption of the continuity in the rock material with its attendant mechanical, hydraulic
and thermal properties.

Would this also be included in Book A? It is not uncommon to directly observe and describe small-scale fracture sets, faults, etc. within core or at outcrop scale, or should a different term be used for the "factual" observations of discontinuities?

@dponti , From my point of view, this object was introduced in the geotechnics domain to represent a specific discontinuity which :
1 - the geometry and the position is supposed to be known ;
2 - and which is directly used to design the geotechnical structures.

For exemple, this object may represent a plane of a bloc failure mecanism, wich could be stabilized by anchors.

So, the exact position and orientation of this discontinuities are intertpreted from fields mesurement wich are cover by specifics object of the book A. Also, thi object may have as properties the mecanics properties of the plane (c', phi').

And if it is needed to decribe not a single discontinuity but a discontinuity set, there will be the specific object "rock mass".

@mbeaufils , So I would have added at this definition :

"Any interuption of the continuity in the rock material with its attendant mechanical, hydraulic
and thermal properties.

This object represented a particular discontinuity which the modelization is needed to the design and which the spatial position is supposed known.

This discontinuity could be an isolated object such as a fault, but also a particular discontinuity from a set which has a particular purpose in the design calculations."

I would want to avoid this part that mention a discontinuity can be a fault.
