Cool example.
I was thinking it might simplify things to use a clip path instead of the prerender listener and the three different composite operations. So I pushed this commit: tschaub@97d6d21
The rendered result is essentially the same.
Not sure whether or not it is significantly simpler.
Feel free to merge as is or with this additional commit.
