Release 2.0.0 Checkpoint Plan

Michael Schnuerle edited this page Feb 24, 2022 · 4 revisions

The MDS Working Group Steering Committee met for the Plan Checkpoint for the 2.0.0 proposed release, and will present these results at a the next Working Group meeting. This completes the work we started back in Oct 2021.

The checkpoint lets them review the past release, discuss unresolved features, and set goals for the current release.

For this work, we used our rubric to help guide the evaluation, looking at feature utility, stakeholder adoption, implementation simplicity, direction consensus, and work completed as part of the evaluation criteria.

See the Release Plan for details of these features. The outcomes and actions from these discussions are summarized here:

Modes

Includes modes architecture and the 3 plan modes to be supported.

  • Utility: 4-5. Useful and in demand in real world
  • Adoption: 3. Some are likely to adopt, for micromobility only companies it might not be worthwhile
  • Simplicity: 2-3. Will add complexity to MDS, but goal is to let someone working on a mode focus only on that mode and not worry about the others
  • Consensus: 3-4. Agree it needs to happen and good planning and consensus is there.
  • Work: 2 - After architecture, need companies in each mode to participate and be willing to complete and guide the work

Policy Reimagining

Reworking the Policy API.

  • Utility: 4. Useful updates to Policy which is a bit confusing now
  • Adoption: 2-4. need to work on getting adoption after release and commitment once better defined
  • Simplicity: 3-5. must make is simple, that is key goal, hard to see based on now, communication/education is important on feature benefits, some effort is needed to implement this
  • Consensus: 2-4. effort to reach consensus on implementation, prioritization help, approach is agreed on
  • Work: 2-4. Exists already and could be less work than other things, but not clear yet what work needs to be done

Agency/Provider Unification

Ensuring Agency and Provider features work with each other in a simplified structure

  • Utility: 4
  • Adoption: 2-3. Not yet sure what the solution is so hard to know about adoption
  • Simplicity: 4 - one of the goals is to remove the complexity and confusion Agency can bring as designed
  • Consensus: 2-4.
  • Work: 1-3. More work needs to be done.
