  1. Visit https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=23/24.18987/120.86389
  2. Observe "13-059". Attempt to change that number to a different number.
  3. Observe there is no way to select it.
  4. Read Help about all the different ways to select things, e.g., SHIFT+LEFT CLICK, lasso (Mention how to lasso all layers #5440).
  5. Find that none in fact work.

Therefore in Help mention the unfortunately there are indeed things that
one can create, but not later edit a second time.

There are two objects above each other. You can select the bridge after you
(1) detach it from the underlying street

(2) Move the detached node a bit:

(3) Then you can select the bridge:

It would be nice if you break up the street, delete the part where the bridge is and connect the bridge on both sides.

@bhousel do you think we should explain problems with overlaying objects somewhere in the selecting-help?

I've tried banning @jidanni from this repo, but since I'm not an admin on the openstreetmap GitHub org, I can't do it. So for now we will just have to put up with him opening issues for things that have been discussed extensively (often by him) and that he could just search for.

cc @Firefishy or @tomhughes - please ban him.

This is probably #2746 or #2225 or #1239
(it was already a duplicate issue the last time @jidanni previously brought this up in #5076)

@manfredbrandl - I'd prefer to fix the actual issue by making it easier to right-click-to-select overlapping things, rather than changing the help to try to explain how to move roads around to get at what's beneath them.

No need to rush to fix it. In the meantime just please make the workaround findable from within the Help menus. A link from the Help menus to this bug (which gratefully contains @manfredbrandl 's instructions) would be enough. Thanks!

We are just trying to follow the instructions when using this editor.

Ah yes #5076. I am just saying that average users using the Help Menu need to find something mentioning this. Else they will make edits they cannot access later. This years old problem is not that easy to fix, but users need to find something covering it.

Also the workaround instructions in #5076 are slightly different than here so the best version should be referred to from Help.

(Actually for @manfredbrandl 's workaround, when the user puts the item back, he will invariably put it back in a slightly different place, so #5076 's workaround is probably better, as the user can simply delete the temporary node when through.)
