Describe better turn restriction relations in relation list #2314
Comments
Is there any precedent for that? I mean in general we show the name of an object if it has one but are there are case where we show a manufactured description instead? I'm just a bit wary that once we start down that road we'll wind up with pages and pages of code attempting to produce a description for every different sort of object... |
I understand @tomhughes's concerns. If we want the list of changed features show some descriptions, we might want to reuse the presets of an editor, e.g. JOSM (GPLv2+ licensed). And even using presets can have side effects. For example, if the developers of an editor decide to remove a tag from their presets in favour of another tag, the website will show a human-readable description for the later feature only and some mappers might get the impression that the new tag is "officially" endorsed by OpenStreetMap. |
We already show an icon for the main category of an object (named or unnamed). Could this be expanded to relations? Maybe we don't have to go down to level "only right turn" but just to type=*. |
For example in https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/72289779#map=18/49.54883/21.85114 turn restriction relation is described as
It would be much better use "only right turn" or something similar instead of numeric id.
