Description

Hi,

first of all a disclaimer: I'm the author of openairportmap.org.

I saw the currently in tag-list the icao-Tags are not linked anywhere and I was thinking if it wouldn't be nicer if they linked to openairportmap.org/{ICAO} ?

I'm looking forward to your opinions. :-)

Best regards
dktue

Speaking personally my opinion is that we shouldn't be blessing one site over others with a link like this - if we do it for then what do we do when another site comes along and asks for the same? Do we start adding a popup menu to allow users to select their preferred site? That way lies madness...

Our existing links out are for sites like wikidata and Wikipedia, where the URL we link to is the URL for the thing we're linking. It would be the same with FB pages and Twitter handles - they have a canonical URL.

Something like airport codes does not have a canonical URL, so I don't think we should link their text.

I would support closing this, linking to the thing itself makes sense.

Linking best matching site is problematic as soon we will get conflicting claims for best or booking.com asking to be linked on hotel entries.
