  • Firefox for Android:
  • Android:
  • Stylus Version 1.4.22:

On Firefox for Android, Stylus doesn't auto-update past 1.4.22, and indeed, anything newer shows up as not compatible. Has Android compatibility intentionally been dropped, or is it just a side effect of AMO making it easy to drop Android compatibility even though you didn't intend to?
If the latter, could you edit the add-on versions on AMO and enable Android again?

Just as a note, current Firefox for Android Stylus versions can be downloaded from the Add-on versions page.

This was an AMO issue, which appears to be resolved now. We still don't show up in the Android-specific search, but if you navigate to the regular AMO install page, it should install correctly now. Might file a forum issue about Android search tomorrow, but at least installs are working now.

I wasn't actually testing this myself, I had someone else check. For a while, we had issues with the normal AMO install page, where install buttons were unavailable to Android users, which isn't the case anymore. I thought that meant it was resolved, but it's not. On the Android version of AMO our installs on the main page are still blocked, and in "versions" the last available to install is 1.4.22. We've also been removed from search suggestions.

Someone mentioned that Dropbox wasn't working right on Android, which was added in 1.4.3, so I investigated a little, and it looks like we're using an API which isn't supported in Android. I'm guessing their automated validator flagged us for it, and they just have no notification process in place for Android specific conflicts.

@matheusfaustino We should probably revert to the previous method if there's no major issues with it. Stylus actually works quite well on Android, so we should try keep it that way if at all possible.

So is it possible to install Stylus on an Android device? It won't show in Android search, will even claim it's incompatible. But from this thread it would appear that you can install it nevertheless and it will work?

Yes it works and styles apply fine.

I installed latest version fine just a week ago, and now it when reinstalling says "unavailable on this platform". At least the 1.4.x is available in the version history.

Firefox Preview Nightly has just received add-ons support.

Unfortunately the older versions of Stylus (which were compatible with Firefox for Android) cannot be installed on Firefox Preview. And it seems Firefox for Android is going to be discontinues altogether, as even its Nightly counterpart has not received updated for a year (still on 68.x.xx version).

The new Firefox will support all extensions soon per the official announcement so there's apparently nothing we should do.

I see Stylus add-on has now been added to the list of supported recommended extensions.
Congratulations! 🍾 👍
There was really nothing to do for that?

Because I'm also eagerly waiting for Violentmonkey/Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey.

Many sacrifices to the dark lord were required.

Link to the source? Nightly still doesn't support desktop addons.

per the official announcement

I don't have a link but it should be easy to find. It was the first Mozilla's announcement on this topic.

Try the versions page. Haven't tested personally, but some users reported being able to install from that page.

Previously, there was a compatibility issue which caused review failures for Android. That may no longer be the case, but we quit updating Android at some point. We'll try again next update.

I'll take your word for it. I'm simply passing along some old, secondhand info. Guess AMO really doesn't want you to install it now.

Like I said, we'll attempt to get it reapproved for Android next time around, and see how that goes.

I wonder when/if Firefox stops being a walled garden on Android :\

You can download Firefox for Android 68.11.0 from official place, IMO is safer: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/mobile/releases/68.11.0/

Check your copy architecture (ABI), to know which APK to download with: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kgurgul.cpuinfo

Everything (Violentmonkey and Stylus) still works great for me with 68.11.0, I disabled Firefox auto-updates as soon as I heard next version would not have extensions.

All is good if you always kept 68 with your add-ons installed but it seems that if you have to install 68 now, all add-ons are blocked as incompatible now on AMO.

Does it remain compatible? It does not appear for me.
