We have Secure File server which keeps our all project related files especially Excel files. Now, we have requirement to implement version controlling for those data files. So, We are planning to do that implementation with Git/Github. Most of them from my source are saying, we can't do version control for excel files in Git. Is that possible to implement Git version control for excel files? or is there any specific applications available for SFTP file server version control?

I want to know how to do version control for excel files in Git/Github GUI? or is there any other options for SFTP version control.
