The problem
GitHub's current notification settings for Discussions is "all or nothing": You either receive notifications about new discussions created in any category, or none at all.
This can be frustrating for users who would like to stay informed about the latest changes towards a project, which the maintainers may provide through a news/announcement category, but can't due to other discussions being created frequently.
They would either have to subscribe to any new discussion created, resulting in a lot of notifications (And a lot of e-mails if enabled), or have to not do this and instead check the discussions on a regular basis.
The idea
There should be more advanced settings to define for what categories you want to receive notifications.
This would allow the user to only subscribe to notifications for a "News" category while ignoring any other one of the repository.
This could also help maintainers to establish a better way of communicating updates with others, as currently, the very basic notif-settings can scare people from actually subscribing to a discussion out of fear they might get their e-mail folder spammed.
