I think I found a rather special bug with regards to achievements:
While I worked on a private repository, I created my first pair-commit which automatically unlocked the "Pair Extraordinaire" achievement. This achievement didn't show up on my profile while my repository was private, which is probably by design. However, when I changed the visibility of the repository (where I unlocked this achievement for the first and only time thus far) from private to public, it still remained hidden on my GitHub homepage (https://github.com/stefangreve), but I could see it when I navigated to the achievements tab.
When you click on the "Pair Extraordinaire" achievement, there's a button on the top left corner for toggling visibility. Curiously enough, the button indicated that this achievement should still be visible. That was the moment when I decided to click on it twice (first to hide the achievement, and then one more time to make it visible again). After this final step, the "Pair Extraordinaire" achievement appeared on my GitHub homepage.
I think this bug occurs because achievements that are unlocked (only?) in private repositories are hidden by default, and remain hidden even if the repository in question changes its visibility to public, at which point I would also expect the achievement to be visible on my profile.
The solution I found to this problem may not exactly be intuitive, so I guessed it's probably better to file a bug report here, though this error is probably not a common occurrence, I guess.
