Add subsonic as a source

Subsonic is an open-source media library with an extensive API. Many other open-source projects build around this API so that music players who support this API can get metadata and music from their projects. You can host your own media (music / movies) and manage the metadata using these.

Example servers:
subsonic (subsonic.org)
ampache (ampache.org)
airsonic-advanced (github airsonic-advanced)

Multiple python libraries around already communicate with the API, including a CLI player - psub.

Please add the ability to play from a subsonic capable server.

Before I discovered Music Assistant, I was actually looking for a Subsonic client for Home Assistant. This to use in combination with Navidrome's, implementation of the Subsonic api. But Music Assistant made me rethink about this. I now use the local file system function in Music Assistant, Although I do that using a mounted network share.

I still use Navidrome, but only when I travel. As I have the DSub client on my phone. It is using the same file location as Music Assistant does. So here is someone who does not feel he needs this function. But it would be nice to have.

I think it would still be nice to have the interface browse the navidrome web service because the music may not be local to home assistant. Some people using navidrome host their music (or the entire service) in the cloud. For me, I would love it if Music Assistant could use Navidrome in order for it to scrobble to LastFM, and keep track of plays.

Am I wrong or would this feature also enable to have music from Funkwhale pods on Music Assistant? (API doc)
Would be a nice addition to online Fediverse services alongside the offline home automation solution.

The actual subsonic project is long since dead and has not had updates in many years. However there are a number of follow on projects and many of them support the open api definitions.

If you have a *sonic server that you want to try it with, give it a go (it doesn't alter the server data, treats it at read only).

Given how I think the form encoding works, query="" is not an empty string query, but a string of two double quotes, which would return 0 matches in my library because "" doesn't show in any searchable fields.

I assume you are referring to my comment from some minutes before.
To avoid confusion, I just meant deploying the test branch or current dev branch of the core/server repository so it can be used by Music Assistant within Home Assistant (HACS) :)

I've updated my Navidrome server to 0.51.0 and Music Assistant to 2.0.0b86, and I am now having issues with double / duplicate scrobbles to ListenBrainz

As mentioned before by @khers, Navidrome only register scrobbles by using the /scrobble endpoint, as clarified by OpenSubsonic:

OpenSubsonic servers must not count access to /stream endpoint as a play and increase playcount. Clients can use the Scrobble endpoint to indicate that a media is played ensuring proper data in all cases.

@codeinabox, do you see double scrobbles in Navidrome's logs?

The provider was double scrobbling (I am working on a fix there) if there was more duplication on ListenBrainz I don't know the cause

@OzGav - maybe I'm missing something, but I have MA installed via docker and subsonic is not an option for music providers. Where can I connect to navidrome? The docs don't indicate where I can find that option. Thanks again for this wonderful addition to the home-lab universe!

If it helps, if I try to go to /#/settings/addprovider/subsonic I can fill out the information, but then get an error that says: 'Unknown provider domain: subsonic'

Ignore me. Even though I ran the latest docker tag, it wasn't pulling 2.0.0b129. Got it sorted now. Thanks
